This research report summarises what the Abuse in Care Royal Commission of Inquiry currently knows about indicative numbers of people who were in certain state or faithbased care settings in Aotearoa New Zealand from 1950 to 2019 and, of those, the number who may have experienced abuse or neglect while in care. Further, it summarises what is currently known about the proportional representation of three different groups in care: Māori, Pacific people, and disabled people. Finally, it examines the number and profile of people who have registered with the Inquiry.
