Update on Royal Commission Executive Director role
The Royal Commission would like to warmly acknowledge Executive Director, Helen Potiki, who has led the secretariat for the past two and a half years.
As the Inquiry draws to a close, Helen has decided that it is the right time to sharply focus the leadership of the secretariat on the critical role of delivering the final report.
As such, Helen has decided leave the Inquiry and focus on some non-work commitments before taking up new work later in the year.
With this in mind, Helen’s last day with the Inquiry will be Friday 1 March at which time Benesia Smith will be the new Executive Director.
Benesia has led the detail and content of the report and is experienced in the completion of Inquiries. This news by no means changes the course of the Inquiry’s work. Survivors and the people of Aotearoa can have every confidence that the Commission’s work continues at pace.
We wish Helen well in her next steps and thank her for her leadership.
